A Discussion on Basic Electric Motor Design
All early motors used permanent magnets in conjunction with electromagnets. It was in 1898 that the first practical electric motor was made and it used electromagnets exclusively for the first time. Both types work well. If a motor is designed properly, the use of permanent magnets in conjunction with electromagnets is more efficient and compact. But using the powerful rare-earth magnets available now, motors can be engineered for increased power and decreased size. There are two basic reasons for this. First, the field in the rotor or the stator is being produced by a permanent magnet, so no external power is needed to produce that half of the field. This allows the motor to operate on about half the external power needed to run an One may ask, "If permanent magnets are now so much stronger than electromagnets and the field already exists, so we don't have to energize them, if they have so many advantages, why aren't we using them in both the rotor and the stator of motors?" The answer is quite simple. In order to make a motor run, one has to turn on and off the magnetic field in the rotor or in the stator. Either you turn on and off the field in the rotor or you turn on and off the field in the stator. You turn on the electromagnet so it is attracted to the permanent magnet, pulling the magnetic fields toward each other. Once they have come together, then the electromagnet is turned off, allowing the momentum developed to move them away from each other, causing movement. If the fields were permanent, they would simply attract each other and lock up, north to south, or repel each other, north against north, locking up between the poles of opposing magnets. The magnetic fields need to be turned on and off in order to produce movement. It is obvious that permanent magnets are just as capable of doing work as electromagnets. Permanent magnets are used in conjunction with electromagnets in almost every device where movement is needed. The biggest reason they are used is because it makes the devices about twice as efficient as they would be if both magnetic elements were electromagnetic. Secondly, permanent magnets are also much more compact than electromagnets, allowing miniaturization of electromagnetic devices. Lastly, permanent magnets produce no heat within themselves while electromagnets do. This can substantially reduce the overall heat produced. The only disadvantage with permanent magnets is that they can't be turned on and off. So, back to the question, "Why don't we make motors using nothing but permanent magnets? Wouldn't they be extremely efficient since we wouldn't have to input power to create the fields? If the magnets were positioned properly, wouldn't an all-permanent magnet motor design work?" Yes, this would be possible, if the permanent magnets were positioned properly, but this is very difficult to do. We at Mission: Magnetics have no doubt that this type of motor would run and would be very powerful for its size and weight. The energy necessary is obviously there and is used on a daily basis in conjunction with electromagnets. We believe we have come up with a way of positioning the magnets properly. We've already made two prototypes which don't lock up, a big step forward. Our next step is to "shield" the fields properly so the rotating magnets will only "see" the fields we want them to see at the appropiate time. We believe we have found a solution that will accomplish this. |
MISSION: MAGNETICS LLCTM
MISSION: MAGNETICS Harnessing permanent magnet power to provide HIGH CAPACITY MOTOR
Our prototype unit is sleek Our second prototype, same size as the first, is definitely going in the right direction. Testing indicates that it could produce around 55+ hp at 4500rpm. We are eager to test a fully working model. We need to do further modifications to the "shielding" on our existing prototype to get it running properly. Further funding would allow us to do this. Once we have verified the output of the first operational prototype (preliminary testing indicates 55 hp which is more than enough power to drive our 24 kw generator) we will then begin work on designing and building a 200 hp motor and then a 700 hp unit for larger applications. This technology has the potential of saving humanitarian causes thousands and thousands of dollars in energy costs. |
200 HP WOULD BE ENOUGH TO POWER
ANY VEHICLE UP TO A …
200 hp would also adequately operate four 24 kW generators, as described below.
LOW-OUTPUT MOTOR
This smaller motor design could be adapted to power tools of all types.
Actually, the practical applications are endless! |
24 kW GENERATOR
One kilowatt, (kW) is 1000 watts, the equivalent to ten 100-watt incandescent light bulbs.
Without electric heat or A/C, 24 kW would be sufficient to run two or three homes. In a third world country, it could power a whole village, including water pumps. There would be enough power left over for a small radio and television station. This generator, driven by the high capacity motor, will output a very stable 24 kW AC current. To accommodate other countries' systems, it could easily be switched between 50hz & 60hz. It could also be configured as a 200 Amp DC generator for DC applications, as in hybrid vehicles.

BUSINESS PLAN
LEVEL 1 MISSION: MAGNETICS LLCTM (MM) is a Not-for-Profit Corp., with Arlen Davis as president, retaining 50% vote on all Operating Board meetings. This is to ensure that his visions and purposes for MISSION: MAGNETICS LLCTM will stay on course, in the case any Board members try to sway it. However, it is possible the president's plans could be vetoed (or stalemated) by a unanimous vote of the other board members. This would provide a check on the president, in case he purports plans inconsistent with sound principles. MM's main focus is on missions: how best to use its products to benefit mankind, installing them, and helping spread the Gospel throughout the world. However, MM will also oversee the production of its various units, making sure the quality is maintained, and doing some assembly of sensitive components. LEVEL 2 In the event that MM decides to sell to the public, this level would act as guardians, representatives, brokers, and middlemen to MM. Here units will be assembled, distributed, and retailed to the public. Here accounts will be set up for MM, and a percentage of EEg's profits will be directed into MM's reserves. And here any inquiries into the products generated by MM will be handled. Phase Plan - How the funds will be used. |
